About Us
Mission Statement
The mission of Purr Partners is to help homeless felines find loving, permanent homes through adoption and placement. We believe that all cats have value and deserve a chance to live their lives in a safe and caring home. We further believe that through education and advocacy, there will come a time when there are no more homeless cats, and all individuals and communities will extend kindness and hope to all cats, whether companion animals, strays, or ferals. We support the belief that cats have an intrinsic value beyond their value to humans, and we will be advocates for cats everywhere through whatever means we have available.
What We Do
Purr Partners Feline Rescue is a 501(c)(3), no-kill, foster-based, all-volunteer organization dedicated to saving the lives of cats and kittens in Central North Carolina.
Incorporated in 2009 by two friends, four cats, and no budget, these two women realized the need for a “cat only” rescue that worked with rural shelters — where cats routinely lose their lives. Purr Partners was founded to save the lives of those most in jeopardy with little hope of survival. High-kill rural shelters became the focus for Purr Partners, and that is still true today. From those humble beginnings, the rescue has grown to over a hundred active volunteers and a budget of approximately $175,000. Purr Partners is self-funded through adoption fees, donations, and fundraising events. We rely on the support of the community, and with zero paid employees and little overhead, nearly every dollar we receive goes directly back to support the cats and kittens we rescue. At any given time, there are between 100 and 150 cats and kittens in foster care, and we have saved over 4,000 lives and rescue more every day.
All of our adoptable cats and kittens are fulling vetted and tested for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), dewormed, treated for fleas, UTD on vaccines, spayed or neutered, and microchipped. Our volunteers work diligently to find these unwanted animals, permanent loving forever homes.
As a foster-based rescue, our cats live in a house with a family and not in a cage. Our cats and kittens are incredibly well-socialized as a result. We know their personalities and their likes and dislikes. Are they gentle? Would it be the right choice for families with young children? Do they get along with other cats, or would they be better as your one and only? Are they a bonafide lap-cat? What about dogs? Our adoption counselors will help you make the best choice to meet your objectives in choosing your next pet.
Being foster-based also means that we don’t have a public facility or where you can stop by and visit. To meet our cats and kittens, you must become a pre-approved adopter to schedule a private meet and greet session or attend one of our weekend adoption events at PetSmart. We are proud to be a PetSmart Charities Adoption Partner and manage the PetSmart Adoption Centers in Wake Forest (11835 Retail Drive), in Raleigh at Six Forks Station (8825 Six Forks Road), and in Raleigh at Capital Crossings (2800 East Millbrook Road). Adoption events are held from 1-3pm on Saturdays and Sundays at all three locations..
We require an approved adoption application for every adoption, click here for more information. One of our adoption counselors will contact you, and you’ll be on your way to meeting your new BFF!
