Aid for Western NC Cats!

Thanks to all of you who have asked how we can help the cats in Western North Carolina.  Here it is.  Please share!

We are in contact with several rescues impacted by Hurricane Helene in WNC. As of now, the rescues are in good shape with food and litter. Of bigger concern are the outlying areas where individuals are cut off from the towns. To add to the problem, there is so much aid pouring into the area that storing anything has become an issue.

Just like in Katrina, everybody rushes to help in the first few weeks then drifts away. This is a long term problem for the mountains, and we want to be there when we are needed most.

Currently, the plan is to start shipping food and litter to the Canton, Waynesville, and Clyde areas of Haywood County. The county was virtually destroyed by the hurricane with many areas still cut off. Distribution centers are set up in the county, and we will have supplies shipped there so individuals feeding cats and kittens can have access. There are many free-roaming cats left behind and lost, and we want very much to help the people care for these cats.

We have committed to taking some injured cats and kittens from mountain shelters which are completely overloaded. We don’t know how many we can take as we ourselves are overwhelmed here, but we will definitely take on what we can.

We are asking for monetary donations so we can purchase food and litter and have it shipped directly there – not come to us. Most 16 – 22 pound bags of cat food run from $15 – $25, and canned food varies greatly. Litter also varies.  We will keep you posted as we ship.

You can donate directly to us through our special Hurricane Helene Campaign.

You can also send a check to P.O. Box 905, Youngsville, NC, 27596, donate through PayPal to purrpartners@yahoo.com, and we also have a venmo account.

If you prefer to donate for the care of the incoming cats, that would be wonderful as well. They will all need medical care and fostering. If you are interested in fostering, please submit a Foster application by going to our Web Site and clicking Volunteer > Foster Application.

Let’s get started helping kitties like this girl coming to us from Madison County Shelter!  And follow us on Facebook for more updates!
